On my first Open Day at ARU, we sat in Hel040 and were shown work from previous students – one of which was “Boogie Doodle”. That was what ultimately what made me want to do this particular course, it made me think “This is what I want to do”. Therefore I have always had high expectations from this module.
The first lecture, yesterday, proved to me that I made the right choice. I am looking forward to the creative element of the course, particularly when we get to set our own brief, which we then have to stick to. However, I am worried that I will find it difficult to stick to the briefs that we are set, as I have always been too opinionated and prefer to be creative rather than to follow rules. I am hoping that as the module progresses I will learn to curb my own opinions slightly, and stick to the brief I have been given.
I am also looking forward to learning more about “different approaches to film and image music composition from selected commercial and non-commercial film composers”. The approaches that other people take towards their music, and their opinions and influences, have always intrigued me, and I know this intrigue will continue through to the audiovisual area.
All in all, I think that, judging by the first lecture, this module will constantly interest and also challenge me. I appreciate that it will take a lot of work, but am eagerly anticipating the end result.
